Unbelievably, the Gladdies Winter 2017 bandwagon keeps rolling along. In uncannily familiar circumstances, the Gladdies once again chased down a formidable total and this time booked a spot in the Grand Final.
Again we bowled first, and we struggled for wickets early. The bowling and fielding were really solid, but Glenbrook had a petty darn good batting lineup and kept finding the gaps. They were 0/94 at drinks, and it wasn’t until the 21st over that Jamie took a ripping catch at deep backward square to kick the wickets off.
But Glenbrook kept kitting and finished up with 4 guys retiring, but then we kind of ripped through their lower order, taking 6/25, to make sure their retirees all had a second go. Marty finished with 3/26, Centejas a wicket a catch and a run out and Dan 2. Dan’s wickets, including a great caught and bowled, became all the more remarkable as he hurled his guts up during the lunch break. Good times.
Still 238 was going to be a formidable chase, but we had the pattern down. Rob again batted like he had a photo shoot to get to, scoring a quickfire 30. Kunal, again, batted with great control and this time got 40. Lach, again, got the runs when it mattered and picked up 40. Dan made a welcome return to the side, registering another 40, and Marty and I had the luxury of swinging at everything at the end to build on the excellent platform laid. We really did chase pretty well, Jamie hitting the winning runs with 2.5 overs to spare.
