The standard of 10th grade reverted to type as an undermanned Gladdies got proverbially pumped out at St Marys.
Naturally, we were always going to lose the toss with only 8 players, and Cuzza Canes obliged by having a bat. Jamie and AJ (who is a saint for coming all the way out and sticking around for the whole morning) bowled really well at the outset, but a couple of chances went begging, and once they had their eye in, the Canes really took a swing. The lack of depth in the bowling and the missed chances took their toll and not one, not two, but three Canes retired, while the last two guys finished on 39 and 25 not out. Tim arrived for the last 10 overs of the innings to plug one gap, but the fast outfield toyed with us, and the legs were very tired at the end. 4/258 was the damage.
AJ headed off to rugby, but was replaced by Rob LL, fresh from his modeling obligations. Jamie cooked up some pretty awesome hotdogs, and our chase began. As their keeper was keen to point out, we started needing more than 7 an over, and it pretty steadily climbed from there. Their bowling was not outstanding, but it was good enough, and when we chanced our arm, their catching didn’t really help us out. Kunal was the rock, recording yet another 40, but no-one else could really find the boundary regularly, and the chase petered out on 122 after 31.2 overs. A thrashing, no more, no less, but at least we had nine on the field for most of the game. Thanks very much again to those who made special efforts to make themselves available.
