That’s right, baby, we’re back!
The Gladdies bounced back with a very solid win to book a spot in the Grand Final.
We won the toss and batted first, and Dan and Kunal got us off to a solid start, before both fell for 30 odd. 78 at drinks was a little behind where we wanted to be, but fortunately, the boys really kicked up a gear after drinks, with Dave, Simon, and Rob really putting the foot down. With a pair of consecutive sixes, Christian joined the party, and all of a sudden we were cruising at 5, and then 6 an over. Rob’s 40 was brutal, but Dave’s first 50 for the Gladdies definitely a highlight. 7/226 was the final damage, thanks to some neat hitting at the end from Jimbo. A run rate of 8.6 for the last 16 overs… tidy. While we knew Supersonics were a strong batting side, we knew we had something to defend.
And they made us worry early, putting the bowlers under real pressure by peeling off 49 off the first 5 overs. But, as has become customary, the spin twins of Lach and Jimbo really put the screws on, and at 2/97 after 17, the match was evenly poised. They had two retirees, but their middle order really failed to capitalise, losing 6/26 to almost throw the match away. We certainly stepped up, with Hirak taking three amazing catches and Jimbo and Dave each taking extremely handy ones. When Jimbo and Rob snaffled out the two retirees with very little added to their 40s, we were pretty much home. We conspired to give a few chances, but Hirak deservingly got the last wicket with the Supersonics still 56 behind. Huge win.
