An absolutely outstanding batting display on Saturday put the Gladdies in a very strong position to notch up another win. Led by a fantastic, and yet not quite big enough 92 from Dan, the Gladdies rattled up 325, with a fiddy to Banjo, a not quite fiddy to Simon and solid contributions down the order. MP 4 has some pretty small boundaries, but some solid bowling and fielding should see us there or thereabouts come Saturday.
What is it with trying to defend 325 on fast dusty outfields that the Gladdies have such problems with??? Sadly, our best score for a while was succeeded by our highest conceded run chase for a while, as the Scott Mullers rattled up a relatively comfortable win with x balls to spare.
The Gladdies started the defence well, with Rookie bowling a solid ten over spell to start with, but wickets in hand, a fast outfield and some tiring legs put them in the box seat. A rolled ankle to the unlucky Centejas left us with just 10 men, and we were quite up against it at the second drinks break, as they’d got the required rate to a run a ball, with x wickets in hand.
But the Gladdies were certainly not giving up, and a spray of wickets had us right back in it, leading to a tense finish that ultimately fell their way. Better luck next time boys.
